Eat2Live Nutrition Philosophy

At our core, we believe Your Food Is Your Health.

If you are what you eat, it should be quite obvious that you don't want to eat junk that will make you sick, depressed, rob you of energy and causes you to gain weight. You will be surprised to note that junk is not only take away foods, it also includes some of the things you've been told is healthy.

Before we get deeper into the Eat2Live philosophy we need to clarify a few things.

  • Eat2Live is not a Paleo diet although there is some science in the paleo diet we agree with.
  • Eat2Live it's not an Atkins diet, although some of the proven science concepts have been incorporated into our nutrition philosophy.
  • Eat2Live is not strictly a Keto diet either, however, the science behind the insulin cycle and it's effect on our health is something we definitely include in our nutrition philosophy.
  • We are not in any way related or associated or hold to the "Eat To Live" nutritarian diet philosophy by doctor Fuhrman.

The Eat2Live Lifestyle recognises that everyone is different. The way our body reacts to food, the budget we have to buy the food we eat, our individual tastes of food and our ability to cook this food is mostly different for each person, therefore, the one-size-fits-all approach to diet does not work and cannot be sustained long-term. For this reason, Eat2Live holds at its core a personalised weight-loss and/or lifestyle program.

We Are All Different

Another point that needs to be raised is this, Eat@Live is not a diet program, it is a lifestyle adjustment program. Therefore, strictly speaking, it is not for weight loss only, it is concerned with the readjustment of our lifestyle for optimal health and wellness. The Focus is to overcome metabolic illnesses, neurological illnesses, and diet-related diseases. Our mission is to free humanity from the lies of corporate nutrition greed and the food addictions they create. The misinformation of the nutrition sciences HAS to stop.

Not long ago everybody knew what to eat and what was good for them, everybody knew how to cook good food and live a nutritious life. Now, no one knows what is good for us anymore, not even ourselves. A quick search on the Internet will quickly reveal that there is no consensus on what is good and what is bad food. If we had to follow the advice online, we would have to stop eating. It is the Eat2Live mission to help you get clarity on YOUR nutrition and empower you to make informed decisions about your diet and lifestyle.

The Food Industry

In 90% of the cases no, however, they are in the industry to make money not to feed the world. They are not about making the best nutrition available to you, rather, they are in the industry to make the best-tasting food for you, to make sure that you will buy their food again and again and again.

How do they make your food taste so good? They add sugar and colourants and preservatives and taste enhancers to get the taste of their particular food product perfect. Now I'm sure you've heard of the chemicals are from the pit of hell and that they will kill you on site. This, of course, is not true. What is true however is that our bodies do not know what to do with laboratory manufactured chemicals, so even though they might not harm us in low quantities they do not contribute nutritionally at all.

A great way to understand this is if you buy one biscuit from one manufacturer you gonna get a really good tasting biscuit. But now there is another manufacturer that makes another biscuit and they make their biscuit even nicer than the first producer, which means, of course, you will buy the second biscuit as well. If I carry on with this narrative you will have a cupboard full of manufactured food that is all designed to taste amazing and this is the problem. If you add up all the chemicals placed in all of those boxes of food to make them individually taste good, you will be surprised at the amount of sugars preservatives and colourants you are actually consuming on a daily basis.

At this point, you might think that we are a clean eating diet. Well, there are principles in the clean eating movement that we should definitely take note of. At Eat2Live we do not believe that all manufactured food is evil or should never be touched (unless you have a pre-existing medical condition that we need to resolve first). We do however hold that these foods should not be eaten on a daily basis but should only be eaten as a treat every now and then. If they were made to taste its absolute best, then it is more a treat than a nutrient and that's what they are, a treat, not as part of our diets.

Milk & Dairy

Milk Even though milk, comes from animal products and is mostly good for us there are things you need to be aware of. The human body is not really well adapted to deal with lactose. That is why you will often hear the term lactose intolerance when milk is discussed.

This again is no true for everyone, however, for most people, an excess of milk and dairy does have negative effects on the body such as bloatedness, tiredness, headaches, brain fog, rash and itchiness.

Even though milk is touted as the great calcium source of the modern age, it is by no means the only one. There are many great sources of calcium such as spinach, kale, okra, collards soybeans, white beans and some fruits that can make up your calcium needs.

If you are struggling to lose weight or are suffering from sinus issues, it might be a good idea to stop using milk for two weeks and see if you feel better. The result might surprise you. You might find that your chronic aches and pains go away.

The golden rule with all dairy products is to stay very far away from all low-fat dairy. All the goodness has been taken out of the dairy, meaning you are left with high calory low nutrition food. When you remove fat from the food you also remove its taste, in order to make it taste like anything you have to put in sugar. So the trade-off for low fat is high sugar.  Do yourself a favour read your food labels and compare the sugar content between low fat and full-fat products.  

Again, it boils down to what has been dished up for us by nature for thousands of years versus the words of the industry. Full fat has always treated us well, now we must process the food with chemicals and extraction processes to make the food supposedly better. You take out the goodness of the food and replace it with ingredients that we know causes health issues and claim it is healthier than the natural product. 

To make matters worse, now the natural products are more expensive than the manufactured products so we are forced to eat industry food if we don't have large budgets. That is why healthy food is ignored. Just go buy organic food and you'll see what I mean.

Eating of grains

Every time I start talking about this subject, it gets people hot under the collar, but it has to be dealt with if we are to deal with our health. The way grains are incorporated into the modern diet is not healthy, is not beneficial to the digestive system, and has a detrimental effect on many aspects of our health.

I want you to seriously consider this:

Wheat in HandWheat in the wild is not something you would search out to fill your stomach with. First of all, raw wheat tastes horrible, secondly, your stomach does not handle raw wheat very well it causes bloating and gas. I think naturally you would rather look for an egg or look for something to hunt. (This was what I found in my personal experience living in the South African Lowveld bushveld)

Even though wheat has been eaten for over 12 000 years, the grains of old were the grains of note. Those ancient grains still had the wheat germ, still contained some nutrient value and was not bleached and was not consumed in the amounts we consume wheat today. Studies have shown that eating ancient wheat shows great health benefits over modern grains.(1 and 2)

We eat on averages 91kg of wheat products per person per year. That is equivalent to 182 loaves of bread per year or just more than half a loaf of bread per day. This amount of wheat consumption is simply not good for us no matter what we try and say. I don't believe we should completely remove wheat and never touch it again, but I am saying we should be very wary of modern wheat. There are too many accounts and warnings and studies of the negative effects of modern wheat to just outright discount them, no matter how much we love our peanut butter and syrup sandwiches. (Please refer to the studies quoted in the sources for more on this topic)

We have also seen for ourselves too many positive results in weight loss and overall feelings of lightness by restricting grains and wheat from the diets of many people to ignore it. If you show no improvement from eating less wheat and grains, you should be fine eating grains, however, we would still advise eating less of it and exchanging grains with other foods to create greater variety in your diet.


Eating 5 fruits a day, every day is quite excessive. Fruit in the wild is seasonal, which means if we did not have shops and fruit imports, fruit would only be available at certain times of the year.  If you were to eat naturally, you would only eat fruit when they are in season and you would eat lots of it at one time and then nothing for weeks. The reason is simple, you would be in competition with insects and animals for the fruit. You would only be able to eat fruit as long as they were available. After that, the fruit would be finished. 

Following a natural perspective, we should not pump ourselves full of fruit every day. I would rather have a day in the month where we fill up on fruit. This is more in line with what the body can deal with than pumping it full of fruit sugars on a daily basis. This amount of daily sugar is not what the body was designed for. Here is an interesting exercise - do a search on the natural fruits, tubers, vegetables and meats of the province you are staying in and the season in which these foods were available. If you did not have a car or contact with the outside world, that would be the food you'd have to eat and thrive on. Compare that with what you are told to eat today and see if this modern advice could possibly be done naturally. Then you have to ask yourself, who has it right? Nature, that fed us from the beginning of time or our modern industrial food producers that have been feeding us for the last 100 years. 

Eat2Live holds to nature knows best. Not paleo knows best because the paleo group holds to the same as the clean eating philosophy and they still hold to the 5 fruits and vegetable dietary laws, no, NATURE KNOWS BEST.

You can clearly see from the images above, that the way modernity forces us to look at food is 100% different from what it was when we lived in nature. Modernity forces us to live to eat, whereas nature forces us to eat to live. I hope you saw that the amount of food the modern dietician is trying to sell as healthy is unnatural and impractical.  The natural eating habits would definitely not have included 5 fruits and 6 vegetables per day.

We have been lied to, we do not need half of the food we consume every day for our health, wellness and energy needs. The industrialised food producers convinced us that we need to eat more, and more and more. They made their food incredibly delicious but nor half as nutrition or nutrient dense. This resulted in us having to eat more to get and stay full (look at the plate sizes). We are so addicted to the industrial food that we are ready to go to arms to defend our unhealthy addictions - it is really sad.

Note: if you hold to the calorie counting idea, this should be a shocker to you. The 1950's plate would hold approximately 850-1100 calories of food. The 2017 plate holds on average 1800-2100 calories. How is it that people ate so little in the 1950's and survived and more importantly, why do we have to eat so much today to survive. Which doctor ordered this? 

Tying in closely to fruit is our vegetables.

Almost all of the vegetables we have to eat today is not the vegetables we would get in nature. It has been bred mostly beyond recognition. Look, I don't believe that these manipulated foods are necessarily bad for us, but I do believe they have been bred to make them taste much better than what they used to. (Don't tell the kids veggies tastes nice) Compared to vegetables in their natural state, our modern vegetables taste like sweets. I would refer you to our article Natural Food Dilemma for more on this.

Vegetables are great sources of roughage and minerals. If we include more of the leafy green vegetables in our diet we will be much better off. We hold that vegetables that grow above ground are better for us on a daily basis than vegetables that grow underground. Most underground veggies contain large amounts of starches and we don't need all that energy in our modern lifestyles. We just don't move around enough to need it.

Fats and Oils

Our body needs a full range of fats, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and Saturated fats. They all have an essential role to play and we should not leave any of them out of our diets.

There has been a war on saturated fat for many years now, but every day, as new studies are published, the benefits of fats and saturated fats are revealed. The original science supporting the idea that fat is the cause of obesity, as well as heart disease, has now properly been debunked.

Just to use a bit of logic, if saturated fat is the problem then we have a bigger problem on our hands than we first thought because all foods that contain fat has saturated fat as well. So if we are to remove saturated fat from our diet we will have to stop eating all fats. For instance, the super oil that all nutritionists will push as healthy, olive oil, contains 1.9g per tablespoon of saturated fat and the new great oil, Canola oil, contains 1g per tablespoon.

The great avocado which is a health food and is a fruit contains 3.1g of saturated fat per cup. The fatty fish like salmon we are told to eat because of the omega 3 fatty acids in it, has 6g of saturated fat in a 200g fillet. But wait,  the evil villain, the horrible 200g beef rump steak we are told will give us heart disease contain 7g of saturated fat per 200g steak.

It seems very strange that we must not eat saturated fat, but all the foods that contain the fats we are told are good for us also contains saturated fat in quite high amounts. There is a definite disconnect in the advice we are given. We have been eating saturated fat since we started eating, and we survived without disease till now.

Now man and industry tell us nature does not know what it is doing and we know best. Strange that heart disease, cancer, and obesity have become rampant since the industrial revolution. For this reason, we stay away from processed oils. All margarine, and all oils that are not cold pressed and all oils that are refined. 

Meats Fish and Eggs

Meat Is Our FoodHumans were designed to eat meats. Anyone that tries to sell you the vegan diet is against nature and who we are. Humans are omnivorous, meaning we eat meat and greens.

Our bodies cannot function without vitamin B12(3) and deficiencies in Vitamin B12 causes Weakness, tiredness, or lightheadedness, Heart palpitations and shortness of breath, Pale skin, A smooth tongue, Constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, or gas Nerve problems like numbness or tingling, muscle weakness, and problems walking, Vision loss, Mental problems like depression, memory loss, or behavioral changes.

The only source of vitamin B12 is in meats and dairy and eggs.

Vegans now get vitamin B12 from industry fortified foods and/or supplements, if we want to be truthful, where would they get it if we were living in nature without any supplements or fortified laboratory added vitamin B12? 

Also, complete essential amino acids come from meats only. If you want to get it from plants you need to have a degree to know which plants to eat to get the complete set of 9 essential amino acids. I refer back to living in nature - how would we have known without the microscopes which veggies and grains to eat together so we could get the complete essential amino acid range.

Bushmen San people Look I am not saying it is impossible to live as a healthy vegan, there are enough healthy vegans today to show it is possible. My contention is it is not natural, and it would not be plausible to be a vegan in an all natural state. Imagine being a vegan in the grassy plains? or being a vegan bushman in the Kalahari desert. 

Eggs have been a staple of the human race since the beginning of time until industry told us it will cause heart disease. We have lived and thrived on eating eggs for thousands of years, but now eggs are going to kill us. The reality of the statement is so ludicrous that we have to wonder why they would even try to sell the idea. research actually shows that eating 3 eggs a day is beneficial for cardiovascular disease and good HDL cholesterol.(4)

For goodness sake, eggs, and meat have been part of the human diet forever. Then mysteriously, since Dr. Ancel Keys said so in 1955, meats, eggs and saturated fats turned on us and all of a sudden started killing us. Even though there are many subsequent studies that prove the diet-lipid-heart disease hypothesis false, it still persists.

The only reason for holding on to this is of course accountability. Can you imagine having told your patients to get of fat, meat and eggs it is killing you to changing your story and then tell them to eat fat, meat and eggs it will heal you, especially if your previous advice did not improve your patients and they actually died? 

The meat, eggs and saturated fat scare is is pure politicised nonsense. These are real foods that should be eaten. Do not exchange real food for industry food.

Natural Food Dilemma

I have been a painful subscriber to the natural food camp for many years. I still subscribe to eating healthy fresh food. (note, I left out natural) When I discovered the reality of our food, it changed everything I believed. So if you are not ready to have your reality turned upside down, don’t read this article. Another thing before I get stuck in, please read this to the end to understand the point I am going to make.

For the longest time, I held the view that we should eat Broccoli, Kale, Cauliflower, Cabbage and Brussel sprouts because these are super healthy foods. Here is an excerpt from Medical News to show you it’s not just me that says so:
“Brussels sprouts are a part of the cruciferous vegetable family, which also includes the nutritional powerhouses kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and collard greens, all of which supply loads of nutrients for a small amount calories. If you are trying to improve your diet, cruciferous vegetables should be at the very top of your grocery list.”

Before I get further into that topic, I want to point out another thing that is pushed quite strongly in the alternative treatment, and anti-produced food groups. Now please remember I was myself, quite a strong believer and considered myself a natural food prophet. Here is what you will hear all over the internet, “Clean Eating”, “Natural Food Diet”, “The Paleo Diet – The Paleo Diet is an effort to eat like we used to eat back in the day…WAY back in the day. If a caveman couldn’t eat it, neither can you.”, “Back to Nature Diet” and the catchphrases goes on and on.

Now I am not against eating good healthy veggies, and fruits. As a matter of fact, I’m all for it. Very much so. However, I used to chime in with the internet crowds that everything that is man-made is evil and should be avoided like the plague. I searched out every article and paper I thought was scientific, to back up this claims. Natural – Like nature intended.

How foolish we are. Quick to jump on the bandwagons, quick to shout conspiracy theories, quick to boycott everything that is man-made. One of My favourite sayings was, “If it doesn’t look like food, don’t eat it,” Oh and “If it has a label with ingredients, stay away.” Again I say, how foolish.

In this modern world, we cannot eat what the caveman ate, because what we know as food, did not exist in the caveman’s diet. All the foods we have to eat, are modern foods, all bred and manipulated by man. This is the kicker, there is no more natural food like nature made it. There is now natural food like man made it. We could not create it, but we most definitely manipulated it.

You think the food at the grocer comes from the farm and is “natural” Have a look at this first.

See this. All our green superfoods do not exist in nature. These were all bred from the wild mustard plant. Therefore cavemen could not eat broccoli, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts, and cabbage, it did not exist in nature, it was manipulated by a man about 2000 years ago. So now what about the GMO hating. This type of breeding necessitates a change in genetics, whether we like it or not.

Oh, I wish this was all there was to it:

Alright, I know the carrot is probably old news. but let’s be honest, which one of us would have gone for the little shrivel of a white thing unless we really had to. Orange and juicy just looks better and healthier right.


Corn on the cob. Who does not love a nice corn on the cob with a bit of butter? It is delicious and now it is almost illegal because it is claimed to be genetically modified recently. Nope, estimates are 6 – 7000 years ago. They were not stupid back then, They knew even back then how to manipulate plants. Those damn cavemen.



The potassium wonder of the modern world. The pre-workout loadout. How would you feel if someone came to you and gave you the little green number as a pre-workout snack? TASTY ——-NOT.

I wish I could say this was it. These were the only things that were manipulated. But not so. There is a long list of other things that are not the same as what our caveman ancestors had available to eat.

  • Chickens
  • Cattle
  • Pork

And this list can go on. I think for now it is clear to see that what we thought of or were convinced was natural, is, in fact, man-made. There is a slight distinction between Genetically modified and modified with breeding. The one is faster than the other. For a plant to change its structure it has to change its original genetic material. So in essence all, or shall I say most of our modern food, is genetically altered from its natural state.

Here is the kicker though. If we are to believe that the food revolution was only bad and everything that man has done to food is leading to the ill health and death of the populations, then we have to place 80% of all the food we eat today in that same group. We will be left with pretty much nothing to eat.

Consider that the super greens like cabbage, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, are all seen as superfoods, it is safe to say that what humans have done to the original plant is enhance its nutritive ability. Furthermore, these enhancements to the food, allowed us to expand our populations’ numbers dramatically. We would never have been able to sustain the world population using only the true natural foods. These modified foods have saved lives, saved people from starvation and malnutrition, and brought health to many people that turned to them as a staple diet.

If we really want to for back to what the cavemen ate for vegetables, we are going to look at very unappetising food. We have to face the truth, we cannot eat that way anymore because we do not have that food available to us. We have to look at what is available to us and make really informed and common sense decisions. This is what we cover in our other section in this website.
